Sewing machine for Christmas

My dd age 11 would like a sewing machine. She has been hand stitching dolly clothes for a few years and her interest is growing into making her own clothes. I know nothing about sewing machines so can anyone recommend? Thanks

I saw some little ones in Dunelm this week. Probably a reasonable bet? Sorry I can't remember details.

It's a Janome Petite, £54.99.

This is a nice little bit of kit for starting off.

I got this, well the older version a couple of years ago from DH for Christmas. It's lovely and I've done some basic dressmaking, cushions, bunting, hats etc... It works well and is simple to use and comes with an instructional DVD.

John Lewis do a fairly basic one too, if I remember correctly. I wouldn't spend a fortune on a hefty one with multiple stich options etc just yet. I started on a basic one and upgraded to a nicer one in my mid twenties - and still I find I use pottery much the same few basic stitches far were available on the simple models!

Thanks everyone! Really appreciate the advice.

Go with a full size machine, the mini's do have drawbacks. the John Lewis JL110 is good basic and good price, fun colours too.
