Applique Lycra?

I want to applique lycra shapes on to lycra

But the shape doesn't stay stable - how can I make it stay the right shape to sew? I don't want to add stiffening underneath as it won't stretch will it?

I don't know what drafting from scratch means Wink

I'm in a steep learning curve

I'm better at embellishing things that are already made - I bought a wreak of a ballroom dress off eBay for £25 & adapted it to this.....the pleats & feather are original....the rest is adapted

Ah the malevolent swan rises again ! Grin
I remember it well, I think it was the first time I posted on one of your threads !

Ooo pretty. I thought I recognised your name Wink You kindly sent me a photo when I was decorating my daughter's competition dress earlier this year.

I bottled it and didn't stone the dress, plus I ran out of time. I used stretch sequin trim and the skirt was rah-rah style in American Dot (hologram sequin) so it had some bling Grin

I guess I tweak....that's the only way to describe it

Well a bad work(won)man blames her tools- my sewing machine is officially crap!!

Try more tools Grin I think you've followed the edge of the shape really well, you are not a bad work(wo)man. I'm guessing you are not happy with seeing gaps between the zig-zags (apologies if I'm wrong).

If you think your stitches are sinking in, this can be corrected with water soluble stabiliser laid over the top of the applique. You then sew over the top of it. Rinse under the tap and it will dissolve.

Reduce the stitch length, does your machine have a satin stitch option? Keep stitch width as wide as possible..

Always change direction with the needle down and on an outside edge.

Keep going, you will crack this

Yes, it was better when I changed to a zipper foot, but tbh I am using a button hole stitch so I'm not sure how much bbetter it can be

My stitch length can't be altered (as far as I can see) & the zigzag is too sparce

I'm using a stabilising papern initially I sewed over it I then I realised it left a transparent layer beneath thaat sort of flaked away (is that similar?)
