Who sells at craft fairs ? What do I need to know ?

I have my first craft fair this weekend and I am trying to get organised.

I am taking....
Stock (still finishing off)
Display boards (homemade) to hang stock on.
Business cards to hand out.
Change and belt bag (in case anything sells)
Duplication book (in case I get any orders)
Name sign.
Price labels and everything will be labelled individually as well.
Paper bags to give out with items.
Pen, paper and calculator.
Few battery candles for a bit of light.
Food and water.

Do I need anything else ?

Any other bits of advice would be welcome.

Off to panic a bit. I have another couple of hours to finish off my stock....I hope I have enough. That said I can't see much selling at my first fair....more a market research event.

Do you need to take a table or is one supplied? Good luck. What are you selling? I used to make and sell jewellery.

Babieseverywhere · 16/10/2015 21:46

They provide table, cloth and chairs.

I make school, satin and fabric bows, tutus and rhinestone tops....just taking hairbows tomorrow....including glow in the dark halloween bows.

How did you find craft fairs ?

Have you any public liability insurance?

'A-N Newsletter' is a magazine - online and paper - for Artists and crafters. If you subscribe to them (it's about £35 - £36 I think for the year), you automatically receive PL insurance.

I've always used A-N, and find it to be really useful.

Tablecloth? Mirror? Possibly a tape measure?

Good luck, I hope you have a busy day.

Babieseverywhere · 17/10/2015 07:26

Don't have a mirror ..might get one if I do another event.

Will take measuring tape.

Just need to finish off 30 bows this morning and price everything and make my own peg board hooks this afternoon.

Hope it goes well.

If you can make tutus, I'd take some to show. They would surely attract attention/ orders.

Babieseverywhere · 24/10/2015 08:17

Last week's fair had very low footfall but I managed to make enough to cover stall and a small profit :)

Booked in another small fair today and I am taking a sample tutu with rhinestone top, to see reactions and maybe take orders, if there is any interest.

Wish me luck :)

Good to hear your feedback OP. Selling at craft fairs or anywhere is is hard slog, but worth it.

Years ago I used to sell at the Corn Exchange in Leeds, when they would set out tables on one of the floors, and I loved it, especially being around other like minded people, as art and craft work can be very isolating.

Big, big good luck wishes for today! Smile
