Please help me with eye patch for a much loved toy

Toby the lion has lost an eye and needs an eye patch. I have promised to deliver on this.

However I have never sewn anything more exciting then a hem or an arm back on to a toy and don't know where to start. Would a bit of black felt do the job? Toby is very small so it wouldn't take much but where to begin?

We are also in the middle of moving house and so have everything half packed, but apparently Toby needs his eye patch now.

Poor Toby. Luckily for toys an eye transplant is easy, no waiting list or rejection meds Grin

If you don't have a haberdashery shop nearby, e-bay is your friend. Just search for toy safety eyes. They have a plastic stem you push through the existing fabric hole and secure with a metal disc. Don't worry, the disc is no return, once its on it can't come off. To get to the back of the eye hole you will need to un pick just enough of the nearest seam to gain access then sew up again once finished.

My eldest daughter has 2 toys that have successfully undergone this operation. The first was Snakey the snake. DD2 took him to pre-school and dropped him in the road. And wouldn't you know it, a car ran over his head before I had a chance to go back for him. Completely crushed one eye. Unfortunately although I could get the right type and size, colour was a different matter. After that Snakey had one orange eye, the other green. DD1 did not forgive DD2 for taking him out without asking Sad The other occasion was a complete success. Sealion who is actually a very small walrus was loved to the point of falling apart and has a perfect replacement Smile

Thanks but apparently he needs to be a pirate! I'm going to hobbycraft today to see what I can find

I'd suggest a small piece of felt and a bit of elastic thread tied through either side. Should be pretty straightforward Smile
