dh has a huge 5ft chicken- wire snowman to cover, so that it looks 'snowy'.

what do you call that fibrous, white, nylony fabric. it's a bit like a cotton wool pleat...possibly a wadding of some kind. thought it mike be quicker than paper mache, which is what dh has started doing! he'll still be making it in january at this rate.

any ideas?

bit of a guess, this - is there something called capok/kapok that's used to stuff soft toys?

A quick google reveals that there is a stuffing called capok (and the Christian Adoption Program of Korea!)
Don't know if the furry capok comes in pleats, though.

it's called polyester wadding isn't it? you can buy it by the meter in different thicknesses, thinner is cheaper. The kapok is more of a stuffing.
Hers's some 2oz wadding

I think the garden centre sells white fleecy stuff to put over plants and cover from frost. Will be going today so will let you know if I see it...!

Sorry couldn't find fleecy stuff in homebase. There was white underlay that was cheap and might work scrunched up. Sorry not much help.

In our local garden centre-Shoots they had a bag of fake snow in the Christmas department for £17-99 ( I am sure it would be cheaper to buy from fabric shop by the metre)also frost protection sheeting which you can buy off the roll. Much cheaper but not so thick and woolly. Good Luck!!

You can buy different types of wadding for upholstery purposes -not sure on prices though but expect haberdashery type shops should stock it.

Or put a wanted ad on Freecycle as someone out there might have something suitable.
