How do you join hexagons? Looking for most efficient method

I'm crocheting a hexie blanket and have got about 100 to join.

What's the most efficient method of joining - I'd like to minimise ends and how long it will take

Have you made all the hexagons already? I made this blanket but I used a join as you go method on the last round.

Yeah I've made them (mostly). I had got about 2/3 of the way through before I'd heard of join as you go. Blush Confused
I'll be doing that next time! Grin

You could still do join as you go if you put another round in them? Otherwise I would slipstitch them together, but that will take aggggges

queensansastark · 02/05/2015 18:43

I've not made a hexagon blanket yet, but I have made a motif blanket, I would join as you go.

If you've got enough yarn I'd add another round to each hexagon and join as you go.

Suddengeekgirl · 02/05/2015 20:18

Oh poo! I definitely don't have enough wool for another round.

Slip stitching it is then. Hmm

Good luck - in my opinion the most efficient way would be to stitch them into strips and then sew the strips together.

CaTsMaMmA · 02/05/2015 20:23

can you join with another colour? ...something neutral
I did this with my multi colour hex blanket, but used black, it looks like a stained glass window!

queensansastark · 02/05/2015 20:27

OK, so if you've made 100 separate hexagons already, I would just take a complementary colour and join them by slip stitching or single crochet or even sewing them along the edges.

You can still join as you go - you just need to undo some of your final round to attach your second and subsequent hexagons Sad The decision is whether you think this is more time consuming than slip stitching them together. Where you are only attaching it on one side then you won't have to undo much, with two sides you'll need to undo a little more and three sides you'll undo even more. If you crochet over your loose ends then you can minimise your sewing even further (for some reason this doesn't work for me, so it's only a suggestion)

I love join as you go as it is perfect for a lazy trout like me Grin

I joined these together, but they are squares....not sure that helpful ...

I used this method , partly cos i wanted a really big blanket! and it was a way of getting another round onto each of the hexs

and hopefully the pic will also attach!
