Quick bound seam question

The smallest binding dp's mum could find this morning on the market was 6/8inches wide which I already have in my box so told her to leave it. Will that be too bulky once it's sewn?

Think it sounds a bit big lucysmam, I would be aiming for something very small. I have a set of makers and the smallest is 6mm, then 12mm. I think that you would need to use the 12mm folded in half on a trimmed seam to make it really neat as a minimum, especially on voile.

Get your pins on the ironing board woman Grin.

Grin The only thing I have to do it is a huge piece of taffeta.

There is some Hemline polycotton bias binding on amazon for £2.35 ish but I'd be finishing off the dresses after the weekend if I went for that.

What colour is the vile (voile), could you use an old white sheet or pillowcase? Have you got any spare ribbon anywhere or anything you could re-use ... seems a shame to wait.

You could buy a whole yard of fabric for £2 - when I realised how easy binding was to make was when I realised how expensive it is.

lucysmam · 17/04/2015 16:38

Well, dd2 has just decided she doesn't want sleeves in her dress & wants blue satin around the armholes so that's saved me setting in one pair Grin

Just waiting on an answer as to whether my friend wants sleeves in her dd's dress or not now.

If not then I just need to bind arm holes/necks, handstitch lining down, attach buttons and loops and hem them both.

Or what about - pita I suspect - cutting the binding you have in half widthways and re-doing it with the pins.

lavendersun · 17/04/2015 16:39

Oops x post. I am going to cut something out tonight - not sure what yet. I am away for two days of meetings next week and think I need something to wear Smile.

I do have a random white pillow case! Will get it out when I go for a shower later on & run it through the washer to freshen it up.

Yep, you're right about how pricey it is!

I want to make something for myself, probably a top I bought a pattern for a month or two ago, can't decide what fabric to go for though Confused

You deserve to make something lovely for yourself Lucysmam after all those costumes.

I gave up on the thought of cutting something out and opened a bottle of wine, tomorrow is another day.

lucysmam · 17/04/2015 21:43

I too have given up for the night and cracked open the Wine !

One armhole bound and lining is in though so not bad going. My eyes were starting to feel "boggly" Confused

I think I will be making a loose cotton shift dress in this

www.sewbox.co.uk/fabrics/liberty-fabrics/liberty-tana-lawn-ltl03637013c.html

I have a few certain styles of things I wear, boring I suppose, but cotton or linen tunics and shift dresses with cardi s are it for spring and summer.

I have been awake all night with a very sore throat, grim, I did feel wiped yesterday but thought it was just down to the usual anaemia. We are out most of the day though so not much will happen today.

Orange is bold Grin.

lucysmam · 18/04/2015 10:06

That's pretty!

I always wear floaty tops & jeans in spring. Also boring probably but comfy.

Hope your sore throat buggers off soon Sad Dd1 has woken up feeling a bit dodgy today too.

I love orange! Grin It's just finding something that jumps out and says "use meeeeee"...

Thank you, not much better tbh.

I love some of the finer weight cottons, they sew and wash like cotton but have a cotton/silk feel and drape to them.

Having said that I have abandoned my plans for sewing right now. My fabric and second choice of fabric will be staring at me from the dining table all weekend I reckon.

I have dark hair and pale skin - I would never be daring enough for orange! I think it would make me look even paler than the blue/white I am.
