Hi

I got some help before so sorry to ask again but I'm confused.

US pattern says:
R1: 5 SC in second chain from hook (5)
R2: SC 3, INC 2 (7)
R3: INC 1, SC 3, INC 3 (11)
R4: SC 2 (2)

It's the INC bit that's confusing me.

Is it the equivalent of 2DCin next stitch?

It means increase.

There's a link with a helpful video..

Basically it means in the second round you will do 3 single crochets and then 2 single crochets together in each of the 2 next stitches. This increases the 5 stitches in the first round to seven in the second round

In the third round put 2 single crochets together in the first stitch. Then a single crochet in the next 3 stitches and finally two single crochets together in each of the next 3 stitches. This increases the 7 stitches in the second round to 11 in the third round.

It's not very clear is it?

INC is probably 'increase'. In row two you'll be doing a single crochet (double crochet in UK terms) in each of the first 3 chains, then two single crochets in each of the last two chains (2 x 2 = 4j) to make a total of 7.

In row three it'll be 2 in the first stitch, one in each of the next three (3), two in each of the remaining 3 (2 x 3 = 6) (2+3+6=11).

et cetera
