Am I bonkers to even be contemplating making my own flowers for my wedding?

I discovered paper bouquets yesterday and am more than a little in love with the idea of them. I found a website that gives you the pattern for free, plus instructions to make a bouquet and it doesn't look too difficult. See it here.

Should I attempt it or is it bound to go hideously wrong? Should I just buy a paper bouquet (plus the rest of the wedding flowers) off one of the many paper flower makers off Etsy etc?

I have visions of the sort of tissue paper flowers we used to make at primary school!

They won't go off. So you can make one well in advance (giving in and buying one if you really don't get the knack of it). I think it's lovely to have stuff you made yourself (something our ancestors would have taken for granted, but is now special).

try it out and see how hard it is. I'm having crochet ones, but I already know I can make them easily!

AuntieStella google paper bouquets, they're a far cry from the tissue paper efforts of childhood :o they're stunning.

Crochet flowers will look amazing, I wish I could crochet!

No, lovely idea. But I'd try it out before I decided that's what I was definetly going to do and budgeted accordingly.
I decided I was making my own Orders of Service as the quote was over £150. Several trips to Hobbycraft and binned attempts resulted in over £100 being spent and a panic a few days before the wedding! I'd much rather have spent the extra £50 to not have to worry about it.

Shock Order of service! Do I need those?

Give it a try, if it works and you like doing it, great, if not buy them.

I had paper flowers for my wedding 17 years ago, and they were lovely. A more talented friend had silk flowers and then made them into a stunning decoration by the addition of fairy lights inserted into them.

You don't need orders of service unless you need to give them hymn words - and then they could still be printed on A4. No one keeps them

well, crochet and knitted. a bunch of friends offered to help as I'll be auctioning them for charity after the event. actually, if you have crafty mates that seems to be an excellent way to enlist willing help!

TheCunnyFunt · 20/03/2015 18:14

Oh good, we're having a civil ceremony so no hymns

I don't have any crafty friends, well, I do have one but she lives a few hundred miles away from me and is busy running her own business.

I think I'll try with a few and see how I get on.

I've made paper flowers for my mum before and they look ace. Not to difficult and you can make them well in advance. Have a try and see how you get on.

The ones I did were like this www.elizabethannedesigns.com/blog/2009/05/05/diy-wedding-details-kusudama-paper-flowers/

My sister is doing paper flower decorations for her centre pieces

They're really pretty! I'm going to add having a go at making some paper flowers to my never ending list of crafty things to try.

Good luck with your wedding planning Cunny Smile
