Probably,a lot of people buy some that are pretty much the same but all one colour and fabric/fibre

I think that you would struggle to make minimum wage timewise and would need to get all your rags from old clothes/for free.
They sell these (very similar to the picture) intermittently in Home Bargains for £11.99. I couldn't spare the time for that little....

ArtyBat · 13/03/2015 11:16

Yes they do Laurie.

In the past I have made and sold them, and at a local exhibition of rugs made by a number of rug makers, several had red spot 'sold' stickers displayed.

Are you thinking of doing this?

FatCunt · 13/03/2015 11:16

I'm not sure - the fact you can buy this (obviously much easier to make) sort of recycled rug in my local pound shop probably drags down the market price for all recycled rugs, even though a proper rag rug is a lovely thing.

Oh that's cheap in Home Bargains

I made a rag rug metal heart decoration and it took about 4/5 hours and used 3 metres of fabric

It's amazing how much fabric they use

Agree that you couldn't make minimum wage

I don't think you ever really get the real £ worth with handmade stuff to be honest. Have a look on Etsy/Not On the High Street and see what similar stuff is going for.

I'm knitting a huge afghan blanket at the moment. The squares have taken me weeks and I've got bored and I've still got about 60 to do

I wanted very specific colours so have bought wool specially which was around £50

One of my friends asked if I'd make her one and she'd pay me. Once I'd pointed out how much the wool alone would cost she back tracked pretty sharpish.

Arty - did they sell for an appropriate price ? ie. Crafts person price and not Poundshop priceGrin

I'm looking for an easy craft to do at night in front of the tv - I'm too tired to do all the complicated ones I do.

I'm going to try and make one for my niece for Easter

Laurie

Yes, both mine and the ones in the exhibition.

I've always held the mantra that you have to value yourself for your artwork to be valued. ThereforePut a price on the work that you are happy with, and refuse to be devalued through lower offers.

So, make sure you work out the cost of all materials used, postage, etc first.
Then as it's practically impossible to charge an hourly labour rate, decide how much you want to charge per sq ft and stick to it for the item, and add this to the cost of the materials.
