Handmade (cross stitched), can I have advice on selling prices please?

I've made quite a nice batch of cross-stitched cards which I would like to sell for charity/church. I was wondering what to charge, I haven't really got a clue. I think the work that has gone into them should be reflected in the price though, the average card must take me 4 -5 hours to complete. The sizes vary from approx. 3 x 3inch to 5 x 4 inch.

Thanks for any advice.

Well isn't minimum wage around £6 per hour? So based on that you should sell them for £24-30 each GrinWink

I think it's difficult to decide what to charge for handmade items, I think it depends where you sell them, could you sell them on etsy or folksy as you might get a bit more?

Really difficult question because you never get a 'fair' price if you take the work into account. A better way of doing it is to work out what the materials cost and then double it.

Really nice handmade (in India) cost £2.50 from Traidcraft, so I don't think you would get more than £3.00 for them.

I think £6 to £8 pounds I wouldn't spend more than that but perhaps if you emphasise the charity aspect you might get that. £3 is far too little for all your effort.

Unfortunately, I don't think you will get a fair price for your work. You could see what similar are selling for on etsy. I saw a lady selling cross stitch cards at a craft fair recently and she was charging only £2 or so and even at that price they weren't really selling. I think it depends where you sell them too. I make little crochet animals and key rings. I have sold quite a few but when you consider the time and materials, I don't really make much. I charged about £3.50 for crocheted keyrings, ie turtles penguins etc. £4 for small bears, £6 - 7 for slightly larger mice etc. I go to a craft group, and a lot of the other ladies ask to buy my stuff :) .
