It's for a puzzle which I suspect might be based on some kind of Northern yarn craft but I've really no idea.

No idea! Could the letters stand for colours, blue, red, yellow and orange?

SoupDragon · 23/02/2015 14:49

Haven't a clue! :o I don't think so as b could be blue or black.

It's only a short excerpt from the puzzle but it should end up with numbers at the end. I just need to work out the theme!

This was a long shot I must say :)

One hint said if you had trouble to unravel and start again which is what made me think it was a yarn craft of some sort.

Have you got any more of the puzzle?

Viviennemary · 23/02/2015 16:00

I agree that it's some kind of Fairisle knitting pattern y for yellow b for blue and so on.

SoupDragon · 23/02/2015 17:12

Hmmm... It could be then. I guess it wouldn't matter whether b was black or blue as long as they're all the same. It is certainly a better guess than anything I cold come up with!

I'm thinking squared paper and coloured pencils may feature in my evening!!

Thank you!

It's going to show a number and you will have to decide where to stop the line/turn. I suspect B is the key.

SilverHawk · 23/02/2015 18:42

9?

SoupDragon · 23/02/2015 19:11

Sorry - there was far more text to work with and I deleted some of that row. I got told off by the puzzle setter for posting a knitting question here once because people were finding the complete solution here when googling.

I've had to change it to avoid the same scenario.

The whole thing is here but I'm not sure if you can see it without an account.

I don't think it is authentic Fairisle, though - it's my understanding (from the Scottish knitters I spend every Monday with) that genuine Fairisle only uses two colours at a time.

SilverHawk · 23/02/2015 19:37

M25 Junction 9? What's near there that's high?

SilverHawk · 23/02/2015 19:55

Oh, Box Hill? Completely emmbarrasing myself Blush just got carried away and probably totally wrong. Ignore....

SoupDragon · 23/02/2015 21:33

:o

I'm about to sit down with my pencils and see what I get. I would not have thought of using colours like that.

OP posts:
SilverHawk · 23/02/2015 21:48

You don't need coloured pencils even, just look at the pattern. Then write it out...

SoupDragon · 23/02/2015 21:52

Of COURSE I need coloured pencils!! Where is the fun on doing it any other way?! Shock

If I had the patience, I'd try and crochet it... Wink

OP posts:
SilverHawk · 23/02/2015 21:59

Oh, I thought it might be crochet Grin. Northern yarn craft my arse
Have you got glitter pens?....

SoupDragon · 23/02/2015 22:56

I have a large tin of Caran D'Ache pencils :o

It was a colour chart so could be knitted or crocheted. I think it is technically Fairisle as it's really just blue and "not blue", so two colours :)

I ended up with one lot of gibberish as I'd forgotten to turn at the end of the row.

I was over complicating it and was convinced it couldn't be colours so thank you :)

I could probably have used Hama beads... Dammit!
