Craft project for a road trip?

Going away for 3 weeks next month and need something to keep me busy.

Crochet is my craft of choice but I'm pretty quick so would need to cart around a lot of wool to keep me going for 3 weeks!

Any idea of a lovely Project/craft I can take with me?

I always take something with me, we are flying on Tuesday and I will take my crewel work project which is small.

When we go away in the car I take either knitting, a peg loom project or crewel work. I find knitting safest and easiest to do in not brilliant lighting/sight (camping and drinking wine Wink).

I've just had to google crewel work and it looks amazing! Might be a bit too advanced for me though!

Knitting is a good idea - I am very slow at knitting! Can I take it on the plane?

Or maybe a cross stitch kit?

If you go lace weight you can crochet for hours and hours got 100g and have something amazing at the end.

Travel knitting I favour a BSJ or a no purling scarf such as a TGV ( crescent garter stitch ) but I'd love to do a viajante or a nuevem ( martina behm) on ravely.

Obviously has to be the road trip scarf! I have made several, but they don't take long. zootyowlcards.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/road-trip-scarves-pattern.html

I am going away next week and have just bought yarn to make this which I hope will last a while www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/festival-shawl

Using lace weight yarn is a brilliant idea and something I've never done. The festival scarf looks beautiful and I've crocheted a lot so feel confident tackling it. I am a much less experienced knitter.

Have already scope out a yarn shop halfway through our trip if I need to replenish supplies!

you could try tatting? You can get little hook things from haberdashers, and a roll of cotton. With a guide from the internet printed off you have enough to keep you busy for hours in your pocket! The results can be lovely too.

I take tatting on long journeys. One day I will master it...

Are you taking a laptop? How about digital scrapbooking?

PeterParkerSays · 16/02/2015 11:14

At the risk of stating the obvious, why can't you buy wool as you go? Take a ball with you and a small size crochet hook, then buy a ball each time to see a shop / department store / hypermarket that sells wool. If you are travelling, you'll have a memento from each of your locations, particularly if you have a slightly different colour each ball.

elysian Tatting looks beautiful too - is it very hard to get the hang of it?

tokelu no laptop on this trip.

peter that is such a lovely idea and I am definitely going to do one day. On this trip there we're moving around a lot and I think only a couple of our locations would have a yarn shop.

Tatting is simple.....getting it neat and even is a nightmare! If you can crochet you will pick it up easily then spend ages fiddling....and chucking it out. Unlike crochet you cant easily frog it.

It is just a knack really I think - though I am terrible at it, but do enjoy the process

Back from my travels with my crewel work and this popped up on my threads - tatting looks fantastic - wow - and not much to carry either.

I can see myself adding that to the list.
