Best yarn for a special blanket

I'm going to make a blanket for my bed. I'm thinking to use something more special than the stylecraft acrylic which I'm currently using for my cosy stripe blanket. I would really like some advice as I'm a total novice when it comes to yarn. This blanket will be special and precious because of the inspiration behind it so I want that to be reflected in my yarn choice if that makes sense?

Thanks in advance Smile

So am I. I was thinking Baby Cashmerino for its lovely softness, but I saw a blanket recently knitted in a lightly flecked aran, and it was beautiful!!

I'd recommend Drops yarn. I've recently crocheted a granny stripe blanket for a wedding present for a good friend, using Drops Alpaca double stranded. It's beautiful, warm, drapes well, is good value and feels and looks fab. It has become my 'go to' wool.

Drops is great value. The Merino is nice - I've used the Baby, DK and Big versions. It's machine washable which may be something you are keen on.

I've not tried the alpaca blends yet, I think because they are hand wash only but I might be doing them an injustice.

I have made a blanket in Debbie Bliss baby cashmerio. It is the softest loveliest blanket of all.

I'm going to go to the knitting and stitch show in March so I might get some yarn there.

I made a blanket in Sublime Cashmerino.

I daren't total the cost. I did buy the yarn over a two year period so it didn't seem so extravagant.

It is my favourite blanket, it has washed beautifully and is soft and warm. I usually have to fight the dog for it.
