Christmas presents for a crochet enthusiast

My mum does a lot of crochet and I'd like to get her something crochet related for Christmas.

I've seen some crochet hooks with nice handles which I think would be good, but is there anything else you can think of to give as a crochet related gift? Thanks

Difficult if your mum is very into crochet she's likely to have specific likes and dislikes. I think hook choice is quite individual , and function trumps prettiness - smooth hook vital , pretty handle secondary concern...and what size would depend on what yarn she likes too!

Crochet markers woukd be a great choice ( they are clip ones)

Or a subscription to her favourite croche mag?

Thanks. I was going to get a selection of sizes for the hooks. She seems to use just the basic hooks that you can pick up in any craft shop, so the nice handle will be a step up I think, they seem to have the same sort of hook in the middle.

She doesn't seem to get crochet mags, she gets all her patterns online, mostly from ravelry.

The markers sound like a really good idea. Thanks.

I'm not a huge fan of the hooks with handles. I think it's very much personal preference. This kind of rules out yarn too unless you know what she will do with it.

How about a yarn bowl? They tend to be made by small craftspeople thgh so it may be difficult to get one for Christmas. It's a bowl to put your working yarn in, not a bowl made of yarn :)

Lantern Moon make tape measures with covers on them which are fun.
I have a wonderful wicker hamper basket I use to keep my current project in.
Stitch markers are good as, even if she has some, the Stitch Marker Goblin seems to steal them regularly Wink the same goes for the needles to darn in ends. Pick have lots of those but only seem to have one Hmm
I keep all my hooks etc in a pencil case so maybe some kind of case? Tin for the stitch markers?
Nice sharp scissors, something that also seems to vanish with alarming regularity.

I'm a crocheter and I hate the hooks with handles so it might not be here cup of tea if she's not used to those.
I'd buy her some nice books with patterns in them, maybe a project bag or some luxurious yarn in her favourite colour to make something for herself?

I LOVE the clover hooks I have with a handle. Also the handles are colour coded for hook size so very handy to spot which one I want. :)

Deramores do gift vouchers - so she could pick some yarn.
Or you could splash out on some Debbie bliss or rowan yarn which is too £££ for me!
Or a bag to put her projects in. I have several WIPs and am running out if bags! Blush

I have bought myself some armour clover hooks to go in my stocking!

I have several different Cath Kidson bags for my crochet things. Pencil case for hooks, wash bag for small projects, book bag and bigger bag for bigger projects.

Would love a voucher for Wool Warehouse/Deramores or for My Craft Life (only on FB)

Little scissors for snipping ends would be fab too.

Going to look up wool bowl as that sounds great and I don't have one of those!

If she has a Pinterest account, you could have a look at her albums and see if she has a particular 'I want to make this for myself' idea, get an idea and get her a book of similar articles, with patterns. Probably best to give a voucher for Deramores or similar to go towards choosing her own yarn/colours, as this can be such a personal taste.

She has a friend with one of these nice crochet hooks and has said she'd like some, so I'm feeling fairly safe with them. They're from Etsy but I can't link to them because I'm at work and our firewall doesn't let Etsy through Hmm.

She doesn't have Pinterest so can't look on there. I'll have a look at books with some nice patterns in, and a case for her hooks, and scissors, stitch markers, and needles for stitching in.

They're sort of like these crochet hooks but I'd like some designs she'd find more personal. I've just seen some instructions to make some, so I might have a go at doing it myself so the handles are her favourite colours, designs, etc.

Ohh, yes they are lovely, although the flatter ones are easier on the hands to grip with. YY to getting them personalised (with name). I keep meaning to make myself these (with the multicoloured set of ordinary metal rod shaped ones) but have never got around to it.

Wow, those hooks look amazing!
I put a wooden yarn server, an attic 24 yarn pack, a zpagetti bag kit and a craft bag on my wish list, I suppose its a bit late to add the hooks too. Will maybe have to treat myself.

I'm a yarn snob and my Dad bought me a yarn club for one of my favourite independent dyers last year - six new skeins before anyone else had access to those colour ways = heaven!

I still haven't used at least 3 of them though…. but they are nice to pet/ admire.

I'll probably buy some yarn to go with each size of hook. If I can make the handles myself she can pretty much have a whole set for the price of a couple from etsy.

I love crochet but cannot use a hook with a handle at all.

I think most crocheters would really appreciate decent quality yarn - Rowan dk 100% sheeps wool for example.

You could always buy knitting or crochet gift sets mrs moon does some lovely ones using premium yarn (which I have treated myself to).
With yarn it's important to buy wool from the same batch if you are making a garment.

There is also the option to buy a subscription to Simply Crochet magazine as well.

my mum loves crochet last year I bought her a crochet brooch from etsy its a little ball of wool with a hook through it, they do stud earrings as well. mum wears it like a badge of honour. the year before I got her a crochet sheep kit which she loved and we've all been given sheep since and she has adapted the pattern.

this year I've got her a Tunisian crochet kit including book and hooks. its a different way to crochet its a cross between knitting and crochet, the hooks are huge.

I do a lot of crochet and would love a set of fancy hooks like the ones you were thinking of, I''ve seen some lovely complete sets that come in a case, can't remember where but they were £££.

Other things on my wishlist would be a nice project bag and an Attic 24 yarn pack. Or a voucher for yarn if you''re not sure what your DM would like.

A book is nice if you know exactly the kind of projects your DM enjoys making, personally I prefer blankets, cushions, toys and scarves to clothing, which I would never make. A kind of encyclopedia of stitches and techniques is nice as it saves a lot of trawling on internet.
