Hello

I am interested to know what you need to start off your hobby of card making. I went into Lakeland yesterday and saw that they stock loads of card marking products and I just wondered where you start - you could spend a fortune!

Sparkler - lakeland tends to be quite pricy.

Have a look on UKScrappers.co.uk - there is a brand new cardmakers board there and if you look at the sponsors there many of them do card making stuff as well as scrappimg.

I think you need some adhesive (double sided tape will do), some stamps or domething to make the 'picture' bit with, a craft knife, a ruler, some brads or other decorative bits and pieces, some card. The Paper Mill, at a lot of the factory outlet malls, is good quality for a reasonable price.

HTH

You're right - you can spend a fortune!

My 10 year old dd and I are enthusiastic card makers and we try to spend as little as possible (that's part of the fun!)

We don't buy ready made card blanks. We go to a printer/copy shop that sells a4 card. We choose our colours then ask the shop to cut it to a5 for us. We have a folding board that we bought on Ebay and we crease and fold them ourselves.

Other essentials - lots of glitter, a Herma glue roller, Studio-tac, good quality glue, sequins and lots of offcuts of handmade paper (also from Ebay)

We have this lot as a basic kit, then buy extra things as we need them. We also like rub-offs for things like the "happy birthday"s and things - it makes them look more professional.

It's a slippery slope

As soapy siad have a look at UKScrappers- there's a sponsor board there.

Basically you need the card blanks/envelopes- I tend to buy tem in batches of 100. You also need embelishments- these are to your persona taste.

I'd buy soem magazines to have a look at the sort of things you can use

Thankyou. It something for me to think about - I have little spare time at the moment but it's something I will consider at some point.

Spend as much or as little as you like. I've even used sparkly chocolate wrappers on xmas cards but maybe I am just a cheapskate.
