How do I find a man

I would love to make a gansey like one of these. They are quite expensive to make, I guess at least £60 or £70, maybe more, depending on the size of the person you make it for, so it would have to be for someone who is prepared to get the wool. I would not charge for the knitting as I would do it for my own satisfaction. It would take at least six weeks to knit, more if it was very large.
Any ideas?

What's the problem? Not that I worked from a pattern on the gansey I posted, nor on the Fair isle cardigan I'm doing at present. But I can read a pattern if needed.

Oma, that is amazing. I spotted your offer after Lambstales had taken you up on it or I would have leapt at the chance to have one for DH.
MrLambstales is a very lucky man

Well, JumpedupPantryBoy it may not be ever so long before I can take on another gansey. Do send me a personal message and then we could discuss it maybe? Not before Christmas though.

Maybe try a hat next? There is a little bit more shaping than there is on a scarf but not that much. And it comes late in the project.

Well Lambstales and I met this morning in the V&A for lunch to hand over the guernsey. She said she didn't know how she had kept it a secret from her dh for so long.
"What did you tell him about coming here today?" I asked.
"Well", she said, "I told him that I was going to a Mumsnet meet-up to talk textiles". Talk about being economical with the truth...not a lie in it. Grin
"But how will you recognise one another," said the dh, "will you speak in code?"

I have just heard to my great relief that the sweater is a beautiful fit.

Oma, I've emailed you.
It's here! What a beautiful beautiful gansey - it's like a work of art.

It fits perfectly and DH is delighted. I love the fact that the yarn is so fine, I had imagined something more like aran.

Thank you again - you are a very talented lady

The yarn is nit that fine, thinner than Aran, certainly, but 5ply. But because it is knitted on such thin needles it is very dense and very heavy, wind and water resistant. Just make sure you don't wash it much, if at all. if yiu spill anything on it just rinse it off with some tepid water.
