I can't fix my twist can I? :(

4 hours into a knitting project. First time I've ever knitted in the round and I've just noticed I've made a mobius strip :( how on earth did that happen and how can I avoid it happening again?
I can't see a way to fix it.

I actually find double points easier than cables.

I think its going to get quite tight stitches wise as I get closer to the crown so I was wondering how on earth you keep knitting without stretching it too far. I see on the video the importance of not twisting your knitting!

I'm on quite a tight deadline and budget for this one (halloween costume) so I wonder if it is worth me investing in some new needles, or whether I should just persist and then next time I start a project invest in some more hand friendly needles. I've book marked your links.

You need to do magic loop when you get towards the crown. There's a variant called travelling loop that I'll get you a video link on.

I'd get new needles but then I have dozens of the things Grin

Thanks :)

Travelling Loop

I'll have a study of it when I'm a little more awake :)

That's very clever and I think you can probably do that with English knitting too, or, as I do with two colours, one in each hand. Will definitely check that out when I next do a sleeve.

Yes, there's nothing about travelling loop that requires the yarn to be carried in a particular hand. Just a good way of dealing with circumferences which are only a bit smaller than the length of the needle.

Dutchoma · 21/09/2014 09:51

Yes, I am wondering what happens if the needle is a lot longer than the circumference of the work. I'll have to try it out soon.

Then I think you'd revert to a normal Magic Loop but Magic Loop is a pain to do if the needle isn't long enough.

Dutchoma · 21/09/2014 10:07

I've never been very good at MagicLoop and prefer to work with three needles. But really few stitches, like fingers on a glove remain a bit of a pain.

Sorry I couldn't see if someone suggested this up thread, but when I am knitting in the round, I knit a few rows back and forth before joining up, it makes it a lot easier to not twist it. You can then stitch it together when you weave in your cast-on tail.

GilesGirl · 21/09/2014 10:18

That's a really good idea Zim! Never thought of that.
