I'm crap at knitting. I can do lines and hats but I am so so slow.

I'd like to try crochet but don't know where to start.

Any really simpke youtube videaos? Or a book? Or should I find a person to show me?

Yay! It has straight edges and everything! :)

My first attempt was more of a wedge shape.

Brilliant, with straight sides like that, you're a natural :)

I second attic24. Personally I find her blog www.attic24.typepad.com a bit tricky to find stuff on but if you google 'attic24 tutorials' you should find some of her tutorials which are laid out step by step with photos. The happy flower is a lovely one and she has lots of helpful bits about joining granny squares etc.

TaaaDaaaah!

My starting off corner isn't right.

Must practise more.

Well done! Don't discard your early attempts, I made my first 12 practice granny squares into a dolls blanket for DD. Crochet is magically forgiving of mistakes when you put it all together, and it looks really pretty, you can see the botch-jobs when you get close but it's a nice reminder of my very first efforts :)

where did you find the ripple tutorial, i found one and got in such a pickle, your 4 rows look great!

AtYourCervix · 09/09/2014 15:48

It's on the Attic24 site.

I'm attempting a longer stretch but keep losing count.

Yay! It's very satisfying isn't it?

AtYourCervix · 09/09/2014 16:40

I am slightly obsessed. It took me 90 minutes to choose 4 colours of wool. Grin

This is a great book. There are lots of squares, easy ones and harder ones, and I think diagrams of how to do stitches in case you get stuck.

bluesky · 09/09/2014 22:12

Thankyou, i will attempt it, ripples look great.
