Teaching myself to knit- possible?

I'd love to learn how to knit but I don't have anyone to teach me.
Can anyone recommend a website? You tube channel? Anything else?
Also, do I need a basic starter kit? What would I need needle wise? Wool?
I've seen a gorgeous pattern for a cowl scarf I'd love to attempt. Possible?

Ooh lace knitting you say? I'm off to google that!

Two, don't live there but often visit for holidays! Grin Thanks for the offer. Knitting lessons and cake (if you take cake as payment) imagine...!

Ravelry is a fantastic place to find projects (you can choose level of difficulty), a lot of patterns are free or a couple of £.

I have just started a knitting project way beyond me because I saw someone wearing something I loved and couldn't find in the shops. I can knit, probably haven't done it for 30 years apart from one project when I was hospitalised for three months and even then I gave it to my mum to finish for me.

Anything is possible!

YouTube has revolutionised knitting.

I was taught the basics (knit/purl) but have taught myself the rest as an adult with the help of you tube and one book (Debbie bliss baby knits for beginners).

I started knitting again so I could give my friends kids personal "welcome to the world gifts".

Now knitting is my main source of stress relief. I have a major problem wi hand dyed yarn and can knit most stuff - my nxt project is to attempt to bead a lace shawl for the first time. I cannot praise ravelry the knitting website enough for introducing me to fab patterns, yarn and help when I've got stuck...

Oh and ignore all your preconceptions and buy a decent set of circular needles. Virtually all contemporary knitters use them as you can carry work around much more readily and knit garments in the round which means no horrible seaming at the end....

I can really recommend the Knitty Gritty book, I've just taught myself the cable stitch from there Smile
I've used a couple of YouTube tutorials but I tend to just click on the top one and forget to subscribe.
Just made a knitted bag for DD1 and am about to start a new hot water cover for my mum using the pattern in the Knitty Gritty book.
