Does anyone have any tips on using Rowan knitting patterns. Want to attempt one, have never knitted a complete garment before but have seen some gorgeous ones in a couple of their books.

how do you mean?

they're just knitting patterns, no?

post more.

knitted a couple - they're fine! just follow the instructions and check your tension before you start.

thanks. have followed a few sewing patterns and there are subtle differences in sizing between some of the different books it has always seemed to me. Didnt know whether this was the same with knitting patterns like rowan - ie tend to come up a bit small so go for the next size etc. have looked at a couple of blogs that people have done re rowan patterns they have followed some look dare I say at bit suspect, but I dont know whether this was down the to skill of the knitter. there is a gorgeous pattern in one of the books two different blogs have pictures of it and it looks like a distant cousin. also how easy is it to substitute the wool using rowan patterns.

Ther's nothing unusual or special about Rowan patterns but in terms of fit, and in terms of substituting yarn, tnesion is all. Do a tension square, get it right, and the garment will come out to the size it says in the schematic. If not it won't. Simpler than sewing!

Tnesion is not an obscure knitting term BTW, it was a typo

I did find the Miss Bea stuff by Rowan to be a bit odd in its sizing. Mainly on the small size but then, occasionaly, long sleeves.

do a tension square and keep an eye on it as you knit.

thanks you all - now all I have to do is find some cheap rowan wool!
