Go on yellowmoon or baker ross website and get some craft packs. I use them loads with my 4 and 7 yo.

Look an amazon for anything made by Alex Toys. Excellent quality mosaic sticker sets, craft sets etc.

www.teteamodeler.com/ (this is in French, but fairly self-explanatory. See 'bricolage' or 'Idées faciles'.)

There's a page on Facebook called Red Ted Art that posts lots of craft things every day, both things they do themselves and links to other craft blogs etc.

They have some very easy, simple ideas and some more complicated ones, for children of all ages. And they do a lot of free printable pages for colouring and cutting out etc.

Also, have you thought about looking at local websites for museums and theatres and children's centres etc, as the ones here usually have crafty activities through the holidays. Even the local woodland has events for things. Last year we made big pictures and fairy houses from sticks and leaves and things.

Recently we have been making shapes with cookie cutters and air drying clay, we've got some paper plates for making sea creatures and sunshines with, we've cut the bottom off of plastic bottles and used washi tape to decorate them as plant pots and holders, we've made binoculars from toilet roll tubes and a board game with spider counters (foam sheets from Poundland for cutting out legs and gluing on a pom pom with goggly eyes on it)

Last year we used paper plates to make our own Very Hungry Caterpillar on the wall.

Salt Dough (very cheap and you can decorate the shapes/models once dry)

Ingredients:

2 cups flour
1 cup salt
1 cup cold water

Directions: In a large bowl, mix table salt and flour together. Gradually add 1/2 cup of water and mix to desired consistency. Knead the dough on a flat surface, adding a few more drops of water as needed (but not making it too moist). Use cookie cutters for shapes or free hand or name plate for bedroom door..
Instead of allowing the dough shapes to air dry, you can bake them in the oven at 200 degrees F until hard. Baking times varies depending on oven and dough thickness. Make sure the dough is completely baked. You can cover the dough with foil if it starts to darken before completely baked through.

Make sock puppets and put on a puppet show.

Design a holiday news letter and photocopy/print and send to family. (Use word art and pics)

Use family photos to make a collage.

Build a small flower rockery or plant some vegetables.

Card making (Christmas??)

Make a costume (cut offs at local haberdasheries are cheap) then wear them for the day (at home Smile) My girls love this activity.

Papier mache masks. Packet of balloons. Cheap kitchen roll or newspaper. Watered down PVA glue.

Decorate blown/boiled eggs.

Nature walk. Make a list of possible things to spot then paly nature bingo on the walk with a little prize for a 'full house'.

Asda do rolls of paper. Very cheap. Stretch it out in the garden. Put poster paints (again ASDA) in to tubs and do a foot print picture.

The one that used to occupied mine for house was corn starch mixed with water in a bowl. It's a solid but it's liquid. Give them a spoon and they will play with it for ages. Not messy either.

Hope this helps. Enjoy the holidays. Grin

Just to add, you don't have to be imaginative or crafty just putting out some card, stickers, markers, scraps of wool and let your DC make a card is fun for them.

A large box and some crayons: let her draw a steering wheel and wheels and it becomes a car.

I try to just give a poke in the right direction and then step back to let the DDs take over.

This looks like a great thread! I've been looking for new ideas for my 5-year-old. When we need something quick and easy, we often turn to online resources. I wanted to share a good one I found: Disegnidacoloraremondo.com has a huge selection of coloring pages that are perfect for keeping little ones busy and creative.
