Dying or tie-dying a bedspread....help

DD has a lovely pale blue cotton bedspread from Ikea

Her room at college will be citrus-y (lime, orange, yellow & oddly enough fuschia)

Is it a good bet to dye it? In the bath or the washing machine?

Is it worth a go at tie-dying? Or is that overly optimistic?

Where do I start?

It would dye in the machine easily.

With regard to tie dye, it depends on the size, but I wouldn't dye it in the machine. The trick to tie dyeing is to not leave it in the dye too long

Thanks we are chatting about colours not

We are wavering between turquoise which is safe as blue to blue would work fine, orange which might be an issue as the pale blue may warp the colour and lime green (which we can't find a dye for but the blue might not affect it too much)

Orange would turn it brown. The rules of colour theory always apply. Lime would also be toned down by the background colour

Might it be worth stripping the colour out - it is a very pale blue

I'm not sure even doing them tight will work in a washing machine. I've taught Textiles for 20 years < bitter experience>. We always do it in a bucket, and rubber bands can be better than string. Marbles also help. but the trick is to leave it in the dye for a short period of time

You could strip the colour out. Or dye it bright turquoise. Lime green would look mouldy on that background.

We have talked about it - I wonder if I can add a satin edging and applique it rather than dye it

I think tie dying is out

We might still flat dye it
