Natural dyes? Canyou make them & do they work?

DD has a favourite tee-shirt which is pale green & it's faded.

I wondered if you can make a natural dye (out of say nettles) to deepen the colour temporarily

I am scared of dying it permanently as it has a logo - but I thought something that would wash out might be good

What do you think?

yes and they are totally not worth it, you can't guarantee it will come out either.

It has an iron on decal sort of thing

Will that dye if I use an ordinary washing machine dye?

You need something to act as a mordant with natural dyes.

This is as much as I know!

OwlCapone you need a mordant with all dyes, Procion, for example uses soda ash. Mordant forms a coordination complex with the dye which then attaches to the fibre, and that concludes the chemistry lesson for today Wink Honestly, it's a wonder I function as an adult with the amount of useless information in my head.

KatyMac probably not if it's a rubberised transfer, do it at your own risk!

Food colouring and salt seems to have worked fine

Thanks everyone
