My Granny Stripe blanket is curving - normal or should I start again?

I'm two stripes into a Granny Stripe blanket, following the directions on the attic24.typepad.com/weblog/granny-stripe.html Attic24 blog and it's curving a bit. I'm wondering whether my foundation chain was a bit tight and whether it'd be worth ripping it out and starting again, doing the initial chain with a bigger hook, and trying to work looser?

Or, is this just what Granny Stripe blankets do? It is stretchy and will straighten out with help. I'm planning on a border too, which should help, won't it?

Just slightly worried that I'll get to the end and it'll still be curved!

Hey, I'm not sure that it should be curving, are you sure you haven't added an increase anywhere, particularly easy to do on the turning chain that would give a curve, if you're really not sure pull it now and start again, I've questioned myself too many times and not listened and had to pull it when I've been much further along a project!! As long as your starting chain is even that should be fine but keeping it relaxed for a granny style stitch is probably a safe bet. Borders do help level things out but not if they are too far gone Smile

I am working on this exact same pattern and I took the advice of another blog I read to use a larger hook for the chain. I also made the chain quite loopy. It is sitting flat.

You could try steaming it under the iron and seeing if it will flatten out - but it might just bounce back.

A blanket is a lot of work - you want it perfect or it will feel like a waste.

I would start again.

Thanks for the advice! I ripped it out and started again, using the biggest hook I could find for the foundation chain and it's looking better already.

I was going to come on with the tip of doing the foundation chain with a hook one size larger than the main piece.

Yes definitely start again. I did one back in January. I crocheted the foundation chain with a size 7 hook and the rest with size 4.
