DPs mother makes her own cards (very nice they are too) Im useless at this type of thing, but have 2 cousins who is beyond wonderful at it.
Am going to ask them to make me some lovely hand made cards for special people this xmas, and althought all of my family know i cant stick two bits of paper together to save my life and have brought the cards from my brilliant cousins, DPs mother wont, would it be really wrong to let her think i made it?
I wont say oh i made your card, but if she thinks i did do i really have to tell her it was not me?
Shes a really lovely lady, but VERY bright and great at making EVERYTHING and i feel a bit out of my depth with her.

I think I can understand where you are coming from with the trying to impress thing. As I said my MIL is a real homemaker and knows it. I remember the first time they (MIL and FIL) came round to ours for a meal I made lasagne which is one of the dishes I can actually cook quite well. She sat at the table and put loads of salt on it which I took to mean that it was tasteless - really, I'm not exaggerating, my dh noticed too. At the beginning I was really conscious of the difference between us but I had to remember she has over 20 years homemaking on me! She's also the type of person to almost show off about it (she said once, don't worry, when I married your FIL I couldn't cook either!!!!!!) and still does - makes a big deal of all the ironing she manages to do, does loads of housework on her days off (and phones to tell me about it whilst my toilet remains in its stinky state!!). But I really don't care now, time does that. Once you've been with your partner a longer time this Xmas card thing will be a distant memory and you will ENJOY sending the crappiest Tesco's own candle Xmas card - RELISH it, even!!!!!!! She sits there painstakingly making these cards when she could be doing so many other things - and you can get a card for about 4p from Tesco! Hooray!!!!!

If you can sew, you can make some lovely sewn Christmas cards, I bought some kits last year, and did some applique and cross stitch type designs, really easy but a bit time consuming. Sure your MOL (mother out law) will appreciate the effort, as she will know how long a handmade card will take.

Could you ask your cousin to help you make a card? Or their are websites that give you step by step instructions on making a card.
Good luck.
