There is a thread in Telly Addicts but surely there ought to be a thread here?
What are you sewing?
Jersey?
Curtains?
Silk?
Summer skirts?

LOL, yes, May might not approve of my technique of hemming with a stapler, either.

Oldraver · 13/03/2014 19:35

I have made some hats of the single layer fitted type for DS...I did have to make a pattern from one he already had. They aren't hard to do, but not as easy as they look due to all the little shaped pieces.

I used to work for a hat manufacturer but most of the ones they make are not something you would make at home

BigBirthdayGloom · 13/03/2014 19:48

Ooh-I'm another one who just has to have a pin dog! Just makes me realise why I don't generally like pun cushions-too small and fiddly. Would perhaps worry that a dog somewhere was wincing every time I put a pinin though Grin

Lambstales · 14/03/2014 15:32

Well! I've just made a hat. Drum roll.... A cotton sun hat with a lining. Sort of bucket hat style. It had three pieces, the crown, the side panel and the brim but what a palaver, what with the lining and the interfacing there was a lot of cutting out. Sewing the circle wasn't quite as easy as sewing an armhole, say. It turned out well, in the end and it was some spare material so hasn't cost me more than time. :)

Go on then - post a photo

HectorVector · 14/03/2014 16:20

There's a free pattern her for a reversible bucket hat. I have my fabric it's all printed but I'm a bit too scared to start. I keep telling myself it's not sunny enough yet so there's no panic.

TunipTheUnconquerable · 14/03/2014 16:33

Oh wow, thanks Hector.
I'm thinking quilting cotton.... I have some Scooby Doo fabric....

The only problem is my kids are always losing their hats, which would be a bit gutting.

DameFanny · 14/03/2014 17:11

Photo photo photo... We can add them now Grin

HectorVector · 14/03/2014 17:13

tunip can you make it soon please and tell me how hard/easy it is... Please say easy, my DS is waiting for his hat! :)

Lambstales · 14/03/2014 20:30

Gosh, I'd love to add a photo. How? In little baby steps.......

Lambstales · 14/03/2014 20:37

HectorVector now I've made a hat, there should be no worries about any sun Grin.
Might have to waterproof it if last summer was anything to go by!
BTW it wasn't that hard, I might have been hamming it up a bitjust fiddly.
I also think that it's the sort of thing that once you've sewn one it gets quicker and quicker.

More or less identical pattern. You'll be fine. and you'll end up making them for the whole school

Excellent! I've been trying to master bound buttonholes today - when I get the hang of it I'll post the results...

Lambstales · 14/03/2014 22:04

What sort of machine are you using?

I am currently stuffing my Pin Dog but have run out and can't remember where I out the other bag of stuffing...

OwlCapone · 18/03/2014 12:32

I've not sewn his eyes/nose on or finished stuffing him, but here is Patrick the Pin Dog.

ooh can I join in please?

Bags. Am making bags. Specifically I have just finished a ballet bag for DD who was being hard done by about the fact that her friends were using bags I had made them and she didn't have one Blush.

In order to compensate I ended up using a fabric which required me to be a whole lot more accurate than I normally am, but I am quite pleased with the result.

Wow - that looks like a lot of work!!

Lambstales · 19/03/2014 12:53

I am full of admiration for your dog, Owl. Rather fancy trying one, now.

With regards to the construction, how did you attach the ears? Also, isn't it very fiddly doing those feet on a machine?

Soft toy/pincushion novice!
