Sewing machines...

I am by no means a crafter, but have my grandmothers old singer machine and use it for simple sewing ( sewing in straight lines to hem etc)

Have decide to buy an electric sewing machine as would like to do more stuff and find the old singer frustrating.

Any recommendations for entry level electric machine? Would really appreciate any advice, basically I just need it to do simple stuff and for it be easy to use.

Can spend up to £100, but If a bit extra would make a huge difference to the type or quality I could get, I'd consider it.

I have a Frister and Rossman, which I like, but can't remember how much it was sorry. I had a second hand one first, then upgraded.

my machine servicer recommended the brother b10 but I can't find it now.

something like a janome j3 series will be perfectly acceptable for your needs.

bear in mind that they will feel a lot lighter than what you're ysed to, but that's because they're mainly plastic rather thsn nainly metal

or go second hand. you can get newer singers with zigzag and electricity that will feel like what you?ve gotbyt have more to thhem.
do a proper search around your local area, google sewing machine shops

ive got an Elna which cost about £140 from John Lewis. it does everything I want for my dress making. Dunelm mill has some decent looking machines though for under £100.

There was a thing on the radio the other day, Bingbong, in lieu of the Sewing Bee starting again, and the sewing teacher they were interviewing said don't buy a £40 sewing machine, they're a waste of money. She reckoned if you spend £120 you'd get a good machine.

I have a Janome which I'm very pleased with. It's not a basic one so was more expensive but I have found it to be a good make

I always look outfor special offers in mafazines - y'know machine worrh £200 for sale at £150 or even £100

£40 would get you an excellent second hand machine, though
