A bit of help please with a basic crochet pattern, if you don't mind

I've just come back to crochet after a 30+ year gap - I taught myself from a book as a child.

I would like to make a blanket of squares and have found a pattern which starts Round 3 with 'ch1, dc into same st'.

Does this mean dc into the chain just made? And if it does, why?

Sorry to be a bit dim - like I said, self-taught as a 9 year old!

I think that means dc into the stitch on round 2 underneath your chain - the stitch that would be 1st in the row- if you were crocheting rows rather than rounds. Have a look at some of the tutorials on attic24 's lovely blog.

I think the pattern I have downloaded is not quite right (ch 4 is sometimes listed as ch 6, for example) and so this bit didn't seem to fit either, if you see what I mean.

I'll have another look at Lucy and try again.
