Mothers Day Arts and Crafts (Uni Project)

Hi everybody,

For a university project we have to create a small business over the next few months and try to sell a product that we have created to test our ability to manage ourselves in the industry.

With Mothers Day being the nearest holiday to our deadline we would like to create something special and affordable for people (mainly students) to give to their mothers on that special day!

Now the point of this thread is to ask you, the Mums, what sort of gifts you would normally, or like to receive on Mothers Day and how we could make something fitting our criteria that would make that day even more special to you.

Thanks for your time!

Dave

Well I do like things that I can use...such as a decorated mirror...I don't like things which show none of the child's input....for eg. this Christmas my DDs class made Christmas cards which were printed and then we could buy a pack. I thought the bad thing about it was that all the kids were told to do the same thing...it was a footprint that was then turned into a reindeer...with a red nose and eyes painted on.

I didn't like that DD hadn't been given freedom to just paint her own Christmas picture...they'd tried to impress THEIR idea of a "good design" on the kids and as a result there was no real personality in it...it wasn't my DDs' style if you know what I mean?

So I don't like kits which have all the pieces ready made for the child to put together....I like things where their own style is important and they do most of the work. Otherwise it's a generic piece of tat...like those sew-your-own felt cushions with a ready cut out owl...and all the kid does is stick on the features...that's not special.

Oh I see this project is meant for older children as in uni students to make and give? Is that correct?

If it IS correct then I'm not sure it's appropriate. Most uni students who are crafty have the skills to make something without a kit surely? ANd if not then they'd just buy something.

Can you clarify?
