Decoupage tips

I'm tempted to find old children's books and cover a set of drawers for new baby (while there is time in pregnancy). I've never done this before, tips please, cheap supply websites.

Many thanks..

Buy the books from charity shops or junk shops.
Lightly sand furniture, remove knobs and apply paper with PVA, you'll need a fair amount so buy it from hardware store , local is best ( cheaper) when fully dried apply several coats of satin finish varnish.

Is PVA ok? Some of websites are advertising specialist glue?

The specialist decoupage glue is often PVA watered down.... you could just buy a big vat of PVA from B&Q and water it down yourself, would be way cheaper!

The only advantage of specialist glue is if you want a matt finish rather than glossy, in that case I'd use PVA to do the initial layer and then matt finish glue on the top - assuming you are not using a varnish, which can also be in different finishes.

Pva is great. I use old beano albums !

You can get great effects from magazine cut outs too. Yes dilute pva glue and finish with matt varnish, I used to
teach crafts very many moons ago. Another tip is to paint the furniture with a light colour, emulsion is fine.
