Hi all, i take orders and do things from my own designs, any occasion catered for. My problem is that when people ask how much for things like a book mark or a gift bag all lovingly hand stitched and finished right down to the tassels they look at me as if i'm bonkers. i thought i was under charging as i make little or no profit. where or what types of thing shoul i be doing to attract more buisness???
book mark from £5
gift bag from £5
tooth fairy pillows £5-£10

I do cross stitch - I have a sampler waiting for me at the moment for my nephew and nieces' baptism (which was last September )
I am very impressed that you are turning your hobby into a business buy, IME, people just don't realise how much time goes into them. I was doing a sampler once and a colleague asked me if I would do one for her daughter's wedding - when I told her how much I would charge (minimum hourly wage - would have taken me about 50 hours or so plus framing) she was a bit shocked to say the least.
I don't do them for anyone else - just to give as presents.
Hopefully someone else will come along who does crafty things for profit and be more helpful!

If you like getting paid for doing cross stitching, then there's a company called ghost stitchers that take orders and will pay independent stitchers. Its at ghoststitchers.com if you want to have a look.

There is a thread on dmc.com called 'cross stitch homeworkers' where some people who are members were very positive about them. (You'll have to join the site to read the thread, but its free to join, and you get access to free charts for cross stitch, embroidery, crochet, etc as well!)

I am not a member, I don't stitch enough to make it worth it, but maybe worth a try for you? I think you'll make more than the £5 of £10 for what you do at the moment.
