What's the best crochet stitch for multi-coloured wool?

Just that really!

I have bought some multi-coloured wool to make a baby blanket but am after some new inspiration on the best stitch to use that won't get lost in the colours.

I have previously made blankets with wool like this using the half shell stitch which has been good but I fancy trying something different. Currently making some ripple blankets but with single colour wools and this stitch would work but I like to try new things (I can read basic patterns so nothing too complicated!).

I'm using a sort of self striping wool for a blanket and am using a very basic pattern of alternate rows of singles and doubles. Mainly because I'm lazy and the blanket grows quicker but the doubles make it a bit sturdier, ifysim.

Some times the some blankets are the most effective! Just realised the yarn I've ordered is cotton! Can I still make a blanket with this or should I send it back as I've ordered 8 balls of it!!

Whoops, I didn't mean that, I meant SIMPLE, not best or some. Gosh, time for bed I think!

I've not used cotton so couldn't advise you there, but if you do a ripple pattern with self striping, the stripe will follow the ripple, if that makes sense? So instead of having a ripple stitch with stripes running horizontally, the stripes will go up and down with the stitch. I've seen it on Ravelry, it looks quite effective.

If you're into "yarn craft" we've set up an FB group where we chat and show pictures of our work if you wanted to come and join us. x

Oh yes, would love that! Is it a private group as quite often I'm working on projects that are a surprise so can't share them if there's a chance the recipient could see my post?!

I was also going to suggest Ripple, Attic 24 has a tutorial for a lovely ripple for blankets.

Yes, private, we voted that way for the same reason... we didn't want or projects on our walls in case they were for someone on our friends list. Grin

We're the Mumsnet Yarnaholics. It's a closed group but we have a few admins who can approve you.

Hope to see you there soon!
