Transferring an image onto material for embroidery?

I want to make a Frida Kahlo cushion for DP.
As seen in Crafty magazine Pattern

I have enlarged image and printed it off. The instructions are to hold image and material in front of light source and copy by hand. I am really struggling.

Back in the day you got an iron sheet for this type of thing. Any ideas on an easier way to make a transfer?

Thanks EM

i always print it design out on paper , then sew the lines i want on a sewingmaschine and gently pull the paper off. After that you can embroder over the sewing lines.

Carbon pattern paper

If the fabric you want to put the transfer on doesn't take it very well (felt, for example) you can trace it onto tissue paper, tack that onto the fabric and embroider straight through both. You then get the pleasure of hours of fun taking off the tissue paper with tweezers when you're finished. It pays to keep your stitches fairly firm doing it that way because they can loosen a bit when you take the tissue paper away, if you're not careful voice of experience Wink

Thanking you all for your responses. ThanksWineThanks

I am going to do the stitch through paper method.

I will let you know how I get on.

I will then invent a pen that produces an ink that, when heat is applied via an iron, transfers to the material.

I will let you know how I get on.

Headless so sorry for this tardy response.
I hadn't checked Threads I am On for ages and was so pleased to see that you had tracked down just the thing!

Thank you so much
