Dpn knitting problem

Where I have joined there is a ladder despite pulling yarn tight.
I'm on row 8 of leg warmers, do I give up now or can I rectify the problem?

I knit socks, in the round on dpn's and there is always a small ladder-like effect where you join. However, this usually disappears after three or four rounds. Sometimes there is a small loop left over but this is easily disguised when I weave the cast on length in.

If I were still seeing a ladder after 8 rows I would probably frog it and try again - 8 rows isn't too much to lose. If you chose to carry on then you may be able to kind of do a darn type fix but I can't envisage how that might look.

One suggestion that I learnt when starting to knit in the round was to cast on an extra stitch, it can be placed on dpn 3 or 1, You then knit the last and first stitch together when joining the first round - it helps to pull the two 'sides' together.

I hope this helps but I am sure there are much wiser and experienced knitters coming along that will help.

Good luck.

I am assuming that you have not dropped a stitch but that the problem is a dip between needles.

For your initial cast on row add an extra stitch, at the beginning of the first row or real knitting, slip the last cast on stitch to the needle with your first set of stitches and knit the two together, this will create a smooth start.

Now to get rid of the ladder, knit all the stitches on you first needle and the first stitch of the second needle. Change to the "empty needle" and continue to work all the stitches of your second needle and the first stitch of your third needle. You will by now have realised that all you are doing is moving a stitch each time, this will spiral any "ladder" and make it disappear. Remember to put a stitch marker between your first stitch of the row and the last stitch, so you will know where you are.

Job done!

I love leg warmers!

Thanks for the tips, I'm going to unravel and try again.
