If I felt a pompom, do I get a little felt ball?

Having made a bag to be felted, I need to complete the fastening and wondered what would happen if I felted pompoms.

Hmmmm, curious. I'm not sure what would happen but I would have thought there would be too much air in the pompom making an irregular ball.

If the experiment fails I have tonnes of roving and would be happy to send you a bit to make a ball. They're very easy.

Obviously I will be trying it :)

Thanks for the offer of roving but the wool I've used is that stuff that doesn't look twisted at all [technical]. I should be able to make a ball with it if all else fails.

So, next daft question - how best to do it? The bag and tie can go in the washing machine but I guess the pompoms may come out a strange shape - or can I roll them into a better ball when they come out wet?

They are 15 mins from the end of the washing machine cycle [excited]

I packed them tightly into the ends of some baby mittens and secured with hair bands.

I have a whole plastic box of Drops Eskimo for felting. This is my first go with it (although I've felted a couple if things before). I do like the effort-free nature of shoving it in the washing machine.

I may accidentally go to Hobby Craft later and get some needle felting equipment...

This has reminded me that I cold make some felted owl keyrings for the Woolly Hugs sale.

They turned out pretty good :) I washed the bigger set twice and they are well felted. The smaller ones were still fluffy after one go but looked great - I'm needle felting one at the moment and its shrinking and firming up nicely.

The bag turned out well too - it's currently drying with an inflated balloon inside to shape it!

:)

The first go, I put them through tied tightly into mittens. Second time, I didn't bother and it seems to have made no difference. A quick roll between the palms of my hands to reshape them worked.

I think I may have found a new obsession. Unable to get any needle felting tools in Hobbycraft yesterday, I bought a kit because it came with one needle. I have nearly made the little bird (athough I changed the shape of mine as I didn't like the one in the picture!) and am currently waiting in for an Amazon Prime delivery of a needle pen tool and mat.

I've done it successfully in the machine using an old pair of tights to wrap the balls in secured with a bit of cotton thread. I wasn't sure if elastic bands would melt. Worked a treat.
