Sooooo the Sizzix Big Shot

I am coveting this machine. There is currently an offer on at Hobbycraft

BigShot which I have almost talked myself into.

But, but, but. Even with the offer it's still a fair wodge of cash, and I've only just started crafting really. Initially I'd imagine using it for cutting felt and fabric shapes for accessories, clothes etc, maybe get into quilting later with more experience & confidence. It's possible I could use it for years, or never really get on with it.

So I'm wavering. I've seen some go for sale on ebay, so if I don't get the use out of it I could recoup some of the cost later maybe. I also think that maybe I should just save some cash & get a sharper pair of scissors (tried to cut circles earlier in the week and made a terrible mess).

I need to decide soon as the offer is up tomorrow. Any opinions or advice?

Well what projects do you wasn't to do in the next year? I sew clothing and don't feel I would have any use for it. Presumably some people use them tooth.

My initial thoughts were for cut shapes to use in jewellery, hair bands and such. Also shapes onto other things - kids clothes, bags, purses etc. Decorative items.

Not really sure tbh.

I'd suggest waiting for a while. If its on sale now then its fairly sure to come up as a sale item again - at which point you might be certain that you really are going to get some use from it.
Otherwise its just going to take up cupboard space and look at you very reproachfully for years.....because you can;t ever quite bring yourself to say you won't try it again at some point!
and I speak as the proud previous owner of a very fancy piece of must-have breadmaking equipment that did nothing but gather dust and glare at me, for years

Thanks both. Rationally I know you're right. And sensible.

My irrational side has already planned (and madeHmm) a host of beautiful goodies with it. All in time for Christmas (doncha know) and saved me heaps on Christmas presents....ridiculous.

I have some birthday money put aside, but I think I will definitely probably wait.

Hump if you don't mind me asking, what is/was your crafty pleasure?

I have one and I do use it. But it takes up quite a lot of space and the dies are expensive.
I suggest buy one second hand. There is nothing to go wrong with them so a safe buy.

A craft shop near where I live has one that you can hire for the weekend.

It might be worth investigating if a shop near you does something similar. Try before you buy Smile

Oh, that's interesting. Didn't know that was possible, will have to look into it. Thanks Woolly
