I'm trying to repaint something that's made of that thick cardboard/chipboard stuff, you know the kind that you get large letters and other shapes out of, though maybe a bit thicker than that.
This is something I'd bought and didn't like the colour, so I spray painted it a few times, but it didn't really cover properly. And I didn't let it dry enough for the undercoats and put way too much on. Disaster.
So I've scraped it all off, and sanded it down so that it's back to bare card/chipboard now. I sanded it with a couple of grains of sandpaper, and it felt perfectly smooth to my fingers.
But clearly it wasn't, or at least not as smooth as the stuff you buy, as now that I've put a couple of coats of spray paint on, you can see lots of little bobbles (like dust specks from the sanding - except that I wiped it off carefully afterwards!).
Will this go away if I do a few more coats, leaving it to dry longer in between? I'm wary of what I did last time! i'd rather stop now and re-sand, if that's what I need. Also, I'm trying to finish it in matt/satin finish, and when I put more than a few coats on, it starts to go glossy in some places where it's smoother.
How do I get a better finish, and can I rectify it now?
