What fabric should I use?

I want to make a simple coin purse (fed up with shop bought purses with the credit card bit etc), what fabric do you think I should use?

As I only need a small amount I've been looking though my stash but it all feels a bit too flimsy (cotton stuff) or far too heavy (curtain material type stuff).

Any ideas?

I also want to make my own bag, but I think I need to build up to that, as my sewing skills are very basic. Blush

I have used these medium weight canvas fabrics before for pencil/coin cases.

You could use what you have got but use some interfacing to make it more rigid.

Wow some of those are lovely. Just need to decide what to use the rest of the 1/2 meter on Grin

I hadn't thought of interfacing D'oh

Fusible fleece works well to give body but without stiffness.

You could use the flimsy cotton, with interfacing and some lining. I make make up bags, and this is how I would structure mine. You can vary the weight of the interfacing depending on how rigid you want it to be.

You can also make a bag in the same way - Made by Rae has a free pattern for a Buttercup bag which you make with cotton.

I think your curtain weight would be best. you can line it with your flimsy stuff.
