Pfeff, Janome or something else? Help please!

I've decided to buy a new sewing machine, but I think I might have done a bit too much research and am now doubting my possible choices so I would appreciate it if someone more expert could help.

I want a machine for quilting (smaller projects at first) and craft projects and minor clothes alterations. I've decided it's a long term investment so the budget is around £800.

I was considering the Janome MC 5900 QC or Pfeff ambition 1.5. Does anyone have experience with these or is there something else I should be considering? Thank you!

I'm a big fan of Janome and have two if their machines so I would probably go for that as I like to stick to what I know. I've heard good things about pfaff too though.

Another fan of Janome here.

I have the Pfaff ambition 1.0 and love it. The build quality is greats and it handles fabric beautifully. I previously had a janome and prefer this although my janome was lower spec than the ones you are looking at. It has IDT which means you can turn almost any foot into a walking foot so the machine grips top and bottom as it stitches. This is really useful in quilting or using hard to handle fabric. Have a look at Bernina and husquavana too. They make great machines in that price range too.

Grin at TravelinColour!

Thanks for the inputs. I will go and investigate Bernina and Husquavana (however given my inability to remember that Pfaff is spelt Pfaff and not Pfeff I doubt my ability to look up Husquavana sewing machines without accidentally buying a pair of Havaiana flip flops en route).

Trying to look up Husquavana I have ended up on a website selling fancy lawn movers and machines for sawing instead of sewing. Hmm

I spelt it wrong too. Grin Sorry about the lawn mowers!

I'm in love. It's called Bernina 580 and costs £2500 and is way too good for my hobby sewing projects. But it looks so nice...

It's always nice to know the outcome on these types of thread. I got my new sewing machine a couple of weeks ago.

In the end I got a machine from Lidl for €70. It's a much more basic machine, but decided to spend much less and just see how much I actually use it before upgrading to a fancy machine.

I've looked in the Lidl Silvercrest machine's instruction manual and the company that makes the Lidl machines, Crown Technics GmbH is part of the Bernina group. So I sort of got a Bernina on the end!

Thanks for the advice and hopefully next year I will have justified getting an expensive machine.
