Bought Liberty fabric, enough for a small quilt, need advice.

I bought a bundle of colour co-ordinated fabric and want to make a quilt. There was one in the shop, made from strips. I want to copy this because its the best use of the fabric.
I need advice because I haven't made a quilt before. I have a basic Janome sewing machine. Should I quilt with a machine or by hand?
Any advice will be appreciated.

I use a machine. When you sew the strips together use a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Press seams towards the darker fabric. When you actually quilt it, it's easier with a walking foot. Quilt from the middle outwards. i.e. if you're just quilting along the lines of the strips, start with the middle one and work to the edge then do the other half. Hope that makes sense!

Thanks for the info Crafty. Any tips on managing to get the bulk of the quilt into the space beside the needle?

I usually just roll it from one side. I've heard of people using bicycle clips to hold it rolled up but I've never bothered.

You could use a quilt as you go method, then you can sew strips and quilt it at the same time - very easy and it avoids having to start quilting from the middle
