I need some help from you crafty people who make candles for fun please.
I brought some pariffin wax to make some candles and then was told soy would be best?. I paid £6 for the beaded parrifan wax but wanted to know Where is the cheapest place to buy soy wax as I am wanting to make some soy wax candles as gifts now.. Also I have read you can make some very lovely and highly scented candles but I haven't got a clue what to use to make them smell lovely??. Ive been told to use bog standard fragrance oils used in burners but also told by some peopleto use essential oils.

Can you help me please as my head is spinning.

Final question if I want to make tea light candles and sampler size what wick size do I buy?. I brought some 5cm lx14 (I think) but they were to big.

Please help!.

Candle makers supplies in London sell all sorts of wax, moulds, perfumes, dyes, mould stands, wicks. They're in Shepherds' Bush and I think they do courses, too.

They've been going since the 70s when I first started making candles, although I haven't done it for years.

They're very helpful by phone, so if you're stuck, could be worth giving them a ring.

I find that palm wax is a better wax than soy wax for the purpose of making candles. It is a harder wax than soy and tends to make candles that last longer. It also resists melting on hot days and hold the scent better.
I wrote a blogpost about the merits and deficiencies of various waxes for candlemaking. www.empowernetwork.com/troysavary/blog/why-palm-wax/?id=troysavary

troy in your blogpost you've missed out the fact that demand for palm oil is currently causing something of a global environmental crisis, with huge tracts of tropical rainforest and peatlands in Asia, and all their attendant biodiversity and wildlife, being utterly wiped out to make way for palm oil plantations.

OP you can google eco wax and buy it online, works out quite cheap that way and is lovely stuff to use. Yu can use either fragrance oils or essential oils, but the essential oils will cost you more though you do need quite a bit less. Try somewhere like candlemaking4you.co.uk for advice.

You can make candles with just about anything....even crayons!
