Update on card stall

So I've done two now and learnt LOADS.

Firstly, I love it. It's hard work, and not the best-paid work I've ever done by a very long way(!), but it's really satisfying to make something for somebody and have them say "Oh, now that is nice! Thank you!"

I still don't know what sells well - it just depends who is browsing your stall. One of the very first cards I sold was one I was really unhappy with but the man who bought it said "Oh, that's just right!"

The survival sacks went down well - one lady today said she'd stick a fiver in it and give it as a "bigger" present, so I suggested that to two more people later in the day, and they also bought them Smile Thank you, JM for those - I think they'd sell really well nearer Christmas too.

DS2 has been beautifully behaved both times - just fed, slept in the pushchair and beamed at everyone - DS1 has had two lovely days out with DH.

I'm going to take the cards I have left round local gift shops and see if they're interested in selling them, and I want to get my website up and running so that I can sell through there - loads of people asked if I had a site.

I did a LOT of personalising cards on the stall, and made loads while I was there too. I made a few from scratch - two anniversary ones today, with LOTS of writing on, which scares me, but I'm getting better at it.

Am shattered but happy. And I'm going to book the next stall date so that I don't let the momentum slide Grin

Thank you to all the A&C MNers who posted encouragement and ideas - MUCH appreciated.

Hehe lurve the snail hunker! Aren't you arty!

hunkermunker · 18/06/2006 10:11

Getting more so, Miaou - I have ideas coming out of me ears atm and I just want to sit and paint and draw and play all day.

Pesky children won't let me though Wink Grin

It's all about practising though - doing the lettering on the anniversary card scared me, but I think it looks OK. That was a second week card though - the first week ones were a bit wonky Blush

Have had another order from the stall though Smile

Champs, I think the souffle pens are less useful than the glaze ones, but I love the colours - I find the glaze ones a bit harsh sometimes and if I rely on them too much, they make my cards look samey. I wish there was more choice of shade with the glaze ones! I'm getting some lightning and some starburst pens and also some permamarkers (I think they're called) - I can't wait!

Oooh I know the feeling hunker - have finally got my paints out to design again this week, and once I start doing one then I suddenly have an idea for a load more ... lovely feeling (and there simply aren't enough hours in the day!)

Glad it's going well for you - have you booked more stalls? (or have I missed the answer to that question Blush)

hunkermunker · 18/06/2006 11:07

Not booked any more stalls yet, but will do, I think. I'm trying to get my website up and running, so I'll be taking more photos of cards later today.

How about you? How's the cross-stitch design going?

Sad not got my computer software up and running atm so I can't convert my paintings just now. Very frustrating. I need dh to set it all up for me and he's struggling a bit this week.

Sad

Frustrating when there are understandable and real reasons for not being able to just Get On With Things, isn't it?! I empathise!

Smile thank you!

Love the cards & envy your neat drawing & lettering Envy
I've bought several types of pens & have never managed to get the effect I wanted. 3d paint type pens are just so messy & I can never get the pressure right to get even lines.
I also like the cards with material on - that looks really effective Smile

hunkermunker · 18/06/2006 13:40

Try glaze pens then, Whizzz, honestly, they're brilliant!
