I have literally just started knitting thanks to the lovely MNetter who sent me needles and yarn.

First question: my book says to have a 12 inch tail. Which keeps getting wrapped up in the rest of the damn yarn. Does it have to be that long?

I've just bought my first yarn for a specific project a basic scarf in navy blue. Grin

I hope you got thick wool.

You can fold it over on itself and then knot it loosely, this should bundle it up enough to not bother you.

PS - I taught myself to knit a couple of years ago and loved it but then I discovered crochet!

I can still only do basic crochet after finally getting it about 2 years ago. I still need to learn to do some shaping. I can do granny squares and straight things! I did do a bath mat that had a star pattern made in it of popcorn though, very impressed with that!

Yes, I got thick wool. And bigger needles.

I'm knitting away over here...

Tee - is the scarf for your son ? Have you had a look at Ravelry yet ? There are tons of patterns on there.

Tee2072 · 17/08/2013 19:10

No, this one is for me. He won't wear a scarf!

I've heard of Ravelry but not been there. I'm hoping to, one day, make myself a black cardigan because I can't find one I like in the shops!

Tee just a word of caution - I find knitting in black awful, maybe just get a ball and try it (or it maybe that I'm just an old fart with bad eyesightGrin)

Tee2072 · 17/08/2013 20:20

Well, I have lots of time until I'm ready to even try, mrsd, but thanks for the warning.

And I already have reading glasses.

Added you on Rav, Tee.

She's right about black BTW, it's a bit hard to knit with.

Maybe that's why I can't find one. Grin

it's not like FB, Tee. I added you to my friends. You can add me to your friends, if you want.

Or don't. Grin

You don't get to accept or reject people. It's just a way to stalk find them, and their projects more easily.

I just found you anyway. I mostly annoyed that I couldn't figure out where it said you had added me. Some of Ravelry doesn't make much sense, IMHO.

But now I've added you to my friends. Grin

Have a look through the groups I am in - some of them I think you will like. IMHO Remrants and LSG are quite mumsnetty in spirit. Some groups are quite sarky and funny, some groups unbearably twee/ultra conservative. Some are fairly dry and factual.

The main rule is the 'always be excellent to each other' so if someone posts a picture of a hideous monstrosity that they made - don't laugh when someone says it is absolutely darling , just smirk and move on Grin If you look at someone's project and think it is fab, leave a nice comment - you get an email and it gives you the warm fuzzies.

Just dive in. You can edit your posts on there, but they show as having been edited. You can't namechange though, so bear that in mind. It's just as addictive as here.
