I like Made by Rae's Geranium Dress (look it up on Google). It's easy to make and a PDF pattern so you can download it immediately and get started.

Oliver + S also have some nice looking patterns although I haven't made any of these myself.

I have made outfits for dd from all of them and would recommend them all for beginners upwards.

This is a very easy one and free, have made this one as well!

I made this one and it was quite easy / turned out well:

I did adjust it for DDs funny shape though (very tall and thin...)

I just sticky taped the pages together. If it has a scale you could try to sketch the shape if its simple.

I can't see the tutorial but there are 'patterns' for making twirly full dresses where you just have to measure rectangular strips, and gather them...

Something like this, but you could use solid strips not patchwork if you like:

I'm in the middle of making this one, its the easiest one I could find... Hoping to finish it this week if I get time once dd is in bed!

Sorry for the link not working, posting from phone.

Another way to get size right for the arms and head is to use a dress or top you already have that fits as a template. That can help you scale up a pattern.

I found gathering easier than expected. It was a useful way to make DDs skirts last another year: adding a ruffle!

LoveSewingBee · 13/08/2013 22:21

I would look on Pinterest, there are plenty of free patterns available.

Lots of free patterns.

I made the dress today, it really was simple! It probably took an hour and a half all in. It's the first dress I've ever made, the ruffle was the hardest bit, I had to google that separately. The shirring around the neck and arms was a piece of cake, I was totally surprised!! Just wind elasticated thread around the bobbin and sew two rows. I'm so pleased with it I'm going to do another one!!

glad it went fine for you!got sewing machine out today, but it keeps getting jammed,i think i'll go and buy a decent one as it annoys me to spend ages every time trying to fix it!
