My wool stash is all knotted

I have just started to crochet again and am rapidly gathering a wool stash.

I have been sorting through my numerous carrier bags this morning, wound the ends back up and put it all carefully into one big hessian bag.

How do I stop it unravelling? Especially when a clump of loops slide off the ball and form their own little tangle.

I love unravelling tangled wool as it reminds me of sitting and helping my late granny. Smile

You can buy special yarn holders, but they would work out quite expensive as they are about £7 each on eBay.

An alternative would be to invest in some of these drawstring bags from the Clever Baggers. At about 70p each for a 20cm x 24cm bag you could store your yarn stash quite easily and there are lots of colours to choose from. I have just measured a 100g ball of yarn and it is 23cm tall

I use those zip lock freezer bags for storing odds and ends, I like that you can see at a glance what you're looking for. I'm liking woollys bags though, you could colour match the bags roughly with the wool or is that a bit Hmm Grin

I did think about colour coordination but what happens when you want to store variegated yarn Grin

Perhaps different colours for DK, 4ply, chunky etc might be more practical.

Me too [happy sigh] although obviously my granny, not yours :) Also frogging stuff, winding it into hanks, steaming the kinks out and winding into balls...

Which is no help to the OP!

I use sandwich bags. Clear to see the wool and cheap.

Brilliant.

I was expecting to find some special wrap and twist method to stop the wool unravelling.

The answer in fact is even simpler than that :)
