hand baggage craft?

I travel quite a lot for work, mostly short haul for a night or two at a time.

I would really like a craft project that I could take with me, but I can't see many things (needles!) getting through security screening.

Any ideas?

Crochet? I've not had any problems with hooks. Or cross stitch. I don't think small needles are a problem, also you can take blunt ended scissors with blades less than (I think about) 4cm.

embroidery or english paper pieced patchwork.

Crochet could be a good option. Not sure that I have the patience for hand sewing patchwork.

Embroidery also a possibility but I would need something in mind that I could do with it - not really a scatter cushion sort of household.

Could you tear our pages from mags for collaging? Or decoupage or whatever it is called, where you stick things onto boxes/old chairs etc? You can also do those rolled magasine beads and make jewellery?
You can also knit with fingers which I keep meaning to do to make chunky cushion covers or a round rug...

I've taken crochet before - I took wooden hooks, a plastic darning needle and used nail clippers to cut the yarn.

I was thinking about wooden hooks, and wooden knitting needles too. Time to bite the bullet and try one or both, I think.
