Very excited, just found a wool shop in Croydon

I hope no-one minds me sharing, I'm so excited, on my way to the central library i thought i'd look down St Georges Walk as its been ages since I've been down there. Anyhow came to a shop called Rokka Sheek, noticed it was a haberdashery and wool shop so went in. I have just started to crochet so i was very very happy to see lots and lots of yarn, different weights, amazing colours, wool and cotton, Knit pro needles and hooks and good prices i think - £1.70 style craft special DK? the haberdashery is pretty good too. I came out a bit lighter cash-wise eeeeeek! I know i'm going to keep finding excuses to go into town now.

oooooh I might have to pay a visit, there's been nothing much worth looking at since Turtles closed and I don't normally walk up that far!

I know, it's pretty desolate in terms of crafty supplies now. Being a colour-holic i was overjoyed to see such a nice range of colours. The whole back wall section is going to be devoted to buttons so i'm looking forward to that. I sometimes go to a shop over Sanderstead way but its pretty depressing and really messy. It looks like no pride is taken with it, but this store is lovely inside, really tidy - the wool is arranged beautifully. Ahhh simple pleasures....

I only have a shop that just sells Robin and nothing else. Hobbycraft which is expensive, the range which just sell Patons and I'm not keen in Patons fab, there are a few other bits but limited choice. Oh and John Lewis which is expensive. I mostly rely on the Internet for good deals.
But yay for you for finding a lovely shop.

Oh and Dunhelms which has the tiniest section of wool.
If anyone lives in North Notts and knows of a proper wool shop please let me know.

there's a wool shop in Caterham called the Knit Club which is lovely, if you want to venture out of London into Surrey...

I've been to the knit club once, i don't drive so my mum took me. Its lovely and welcoming. I'd love to head over more but i can't keep hounding my poor folks to drive me!

I forgot to also add the shop this morning also did sewing patterns. I think they had all the catalogues. I thought that was pretty good as there's not that many places (in my limited experience) that do them.

Allders used to be brilliant but that was a few years back now, when they went bust their stock wasn't as good. There's a lovely wool shop not far from me but it's so expensive it works out cheaper to buy online and pay postage. I have managed to order some radio active pink though so maybe a proper shop would be a good idea Grin And buttons you say . . .

Oh gosh, with you there ninja with ordering online. I've had a few disasters, greens especially - maybe it's my screen! Yep there aren't tons of buttons at the moment but the whole wall is due to be filled.

Rokka Sheek often used to post updates on the Croydon Ravelry group. I think they are very keen to please :)

I was going to mention my local Caterham one too!

Tiger in the whitgift centre sometimes has nice bright wool and buttons and crafty bits.

Oooh i need to join Ravelry don't I? I have a pile of projects waiting to go - my problem is that with an 8 month old and a 3 year old progress is soooo slooow. I've been working on a ripple for my little monster's big boy bed and its taking months.I go back to work soon so i figure with a 1.5hr commute each way and a whole hour for lunch, i'll probably get quite a lot done Grin

I got that feeling when i went in Soup and the Caterham was also really helpful. I love that. Good customer service, makes me want to spend my money. My most local sewing/yarn store, the one i mentioned up thread is terrible, they are sooo rude and stroppy. I felt like asking if they realised they were running a shop?!

Going in to town tomorrow..will have to check out Tiger too....Smile

The Croydon group is here Not very active but there is a thread about stockists which is where Rokka Sheek posts sometimes.

The Sanderstead one is Threadbear isn't it? Hamsey Green. It's recently been taken over by new owners. I've always found the staff really friendly and helpful though.

Maybe Threadbear didn't like the cut of my jibWink or perhaps I was just unlucky to have a couple of duff experiences over the last few months, it happens I suppose.

I've always found the Threadbear staff really helpful - certainly never rude or stroppy (and I am not a regular). I'm really surprised.

OP - perhaps you could put this shop on Mums net Croydon do others who don't see this thread will know it's there.
