Cursing my crochet, please help!

I am a self taught crochet(er? ist?) and haven't made many things, although what I have made so far I've been very pleased with.

However, I have a question which I haven't been able to answer through my books or youtube videos, and I think knowing the answer will help me to work out why my latest venture, now I come to sew it together, is totally weird :(

When you have a row of crochet, the top of the stitch is a loop of wool. When you are making the next row, do you put your hook through one strand of the loop (ie between the two bits of loop), or both (ie under the whole loop)? Blush for asking such a basic question.

I am making a cardigan for dd and it's all long and thin :( She's skinny, but not that skinny!

Thanks for any help...

I always put it through both parts of the loop.

BTW don't apologise for asking anything. There are loads of lovely posters here who are only too happy to help. We have all been beginners and it doesn't matter what level you are at - there is always someone who can answer your question. Smile

I've been crocheting for nearly 40 years but the level of skill of some MNers is absolutely breathtaking.

You can do either, sometimes a pattern will tell you "back loop only" or "front loop only", but I'd say as a default go through both - I think it makes it a bit more stable. Nervously eyes square where I crocheted three trebles into only one loop.

Ah... that explains it. I think I'm going to have to start again! I was at the point of making it up too Angry! I was determined to finish this and sewing a pair of dungarees for dd before I finished mat leave..... but I'm back to work on Monday :(

Thanks for your help :) I knew mn would have the answers!
