What kind of blanket would you crochet?

DC2 is due in August and I've used some birthday money to buy the yarn so I can make a blanket. There are 11 colours, 100g of each colour.

Which pattern would you use if given free rein?

Make sure you follow the washing instructions by the way - needs quite a gentle wash I recall!

It's amazing how different a pattern can look when done in a different colour scheme. A big granny is tempting. I did a little filled in granny which is about 18inches square. The only thing is, it is not very square. I think you can get away with a bit more if it has holes or if it is a few squares joined together.

I ignore the finer pints of getting it all square. Once it's under someone's bum on the sofa no one will notice. Grin

There's a lovely 'Elmer' baby blanket on the Zlittle Ztin Bird blog that would be fab for a baby and has loads of colours

I can highly recommend attic24's granny stripes. Did a cot size on for DD when she was born. Was a lovely project, 2 stripes per colour.

I'm working on the hexagon blanket which is a join as you go, so no sewing ends in, if you learn to crochet them in after you. Something satisfying about snipping the loose ends off at the end :)

I love join as you go granny squares. I saw this on attic24 also, I did a blanket for a friend, small for car seat/moses basket. All the initial three rounds were a random colour but the fourth was a cream on all of them. Looked really lovely and was quick(ish) to make.

I am currently knitting a chevron blanket with Peter Pan paints, which is variegated and quite lovely, for DC2 due any day.

Have my projects on Ravelry under kellestar if you want to nosy.

The babette is just various sized granny blocks, you can use join as you go. Our local yarn shop have one on display that is made from Noro, delicious but sooooo expensive.
